I'm an artist, caregiver, and author. I've spent the last twenty five years learning my craft. Now it's time to fly.
I've gone the traditional route of querying agents. No takers so I'm heading toward independent publishing.
I'm a graduate of Holly Lisle's How to Think Sideways class and her How to Revise your Novel. Holly's boards have given me access to a line up of editors, proofreaders, cover artists, website people. She has strict guidelines and having access to professionals who can help me in my quest to provide a quality product is priceless.
In my line up of upcoming books is: Enter Cosmos a Middle Grade fantasy story. A sequel is planned for this book but Enter Cosmos is a stand alone story.
Second in line for publication is: Bone Weary. This is an adult cozy mystery, heavy on humor and heart. One of the main characters is a non-verbal, non-ambulatory 18-year old young man. Over the years I get a lot of questions about my son and how I know what he wants etc. I wrote Bone Weary as a way to show how a big family functions, and the place within the family of this disabled child.
Bone Weary is planned out as a three story arc, with each book standing alone. Following Bone Weary will be Weary Xmas and A Weary Reunion.
Weary refers to the small town where these stories take place. Weary, Kansas.
I have stories lined up for the next ten years. I just need to figure out a way to make it all work. The publishing/marketing side of writing is all new to me. I'm feeling my way through it and its hard to find reliable, helpful information on how to navigate through independent publishing.
I intend to continue the traditional route, hoping at some point in time to find the right combination. My ideal hope would be to gather around me people who can work with me on every project.
My first writing job was for a local paper. I joined The Write Team and provided an article every two weeks for twelve months. I learned to write tight and meet my deadlines. It was excellent training.
My disabled son, Joshua, is an artist and I've helped him market his artwork for over ten years. So I have a bit of an idea on how to provide a product and get it to the public. But there is so much more to learn.
the two websites that I manage are: www.ourhomestudio.com which showcases my son, and my, artwork, as well as talks about various aspects of Josh's life.
www.clroth.com is my writing website. I hope to see it grow as I get the books to publication.
